Front End Developer

Role Summary – Front End Developer

As part of the Technology team, you will be required to work across the front-end software development life cycle to translate business requirements into effective online solutions, using a mixture of traditional and emerging techniques and solutions.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Specific

  • Develop, test and support a range of responsive components and sites using a library of technologies, frameworks and languages
  • Adhere to and maintain development standards, conventions and practices within the team ensuring quality is maintained
  • Peer review and quality assurance of solutions developed by colleagues within the team
  • Work closely with team members to evaluate to support the development of new code or reuse of existing code and technical innovation
  • Attend daily stand-ups, reporting progress, identifying any risks or issues, and working with team members to contribute to a timely resolution as required.

General

  • Work with the team and stakeholders to understand, estimate and develop solutions
  • Document and present solutions and processes to other team members and the wider business

Required

  • At least three years commercial experience in responsive web development
  • Extensive knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3
  • Develop using CSS preprocessors such as LESS or SASS
  • Commercial experience developing Javascript, including:
  • jQuery and at least one modern JavaScript framework
  • Developing Javascript using build tools such as Webpack/Browserify/Gulp/Grunt
  • Unit testing Javascript
  • Working with ES modules

Knowledge and technical understanding of

  • The DOM, and optimal mark-up structure
  • SEO guidelines and techniques
  • Cross browser development and debugging
  • W3C guidelines, usability and accessibility
  • Worked with back-end technologies and CMS’s. Experience integrating work with the back-end
  • Experience using web design tools such as Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks
  • Use version control, SVN/GIT

Desired

  • Degree/Post-graduate Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Experience working with Wordpress
  • Code optimisation and performance techniques
  • Experience with React or Angular Javascript frameworks
  • Experience working with Phone Gap
  • Familiar with Object Oriented and Functional programming paradigms
  • Experience working with MVC frameworks
  • Hands on experience in design or UX
  • Understanding of the whole development process from design through to delivery
  • Worked in an Agile or Scrum team
  • Some experience and understanding with developing using .net MVC and Visual Studio
  • Experience developing and testing responsive emails/newsletters
  • Experience with JIRA and Confluence
