Senior PHP Developer (Symfony, Agile)

London, City of London - Greater London

£60,000 - £70,000 per annum



Their technology stack includes; PHP, React.js, Symfony, AWS, Puppet, Docker and early attempts in microservice architecture, so there’s plenty of opportunity to learn new skills if you’re up for the challenge. Just to give you a better idea, here are some of the accomplishments of the technology team in a past year:

  • They configured AWS Web Application Firewall to protect us from some of unwanted traffic they experienced
  • Their first attempts at using microservices architecture 
  • Utilising docker containers in development/test
  • Their first Single Page Application to give their back-office system a fresh start - using react.js to achieve that
  • Data warehousing with AWS Redshift, Spark, and Scala - because ‘death by data’ does not apply :) 
  • Serverless, specifically utilised AWS Lambda for some heavy processing and helper jobs
  • Adopted tools like SwaggerIO to speed up development of internal APIs and SDKs
  • They hold regular retrospectives to improve the working environment and lightning talks to share cool ideas whether work-related or not.

Senior PHP Developer skills & requirements:

  • PHP and MySQL
  • Modern PHP frameworks experience (ideally Symfony 2 or 3)
  • Javascript skills (React.js, Angular or similar - they'll train you in React.js)
  • Unit and functional testing (PHPUnit)
  • Experience in Agile environment

As the Senior PHP Developer you can expect to:

  • Develop and improve customer facing applications
  • Develop and improve marketplace integration
  • Develop and improve backend services and APIs
  • Deliver projects according to agreed timelines
  • Maintain high level of test coverage across the projects (unit, functional, end-to-end)

As the Senior PHP Developer you'll join a team that consists of 7 Developers of various disciplines and experience. The developers use MacBook Pros, but there’s certainly space for Linux lovers. They're are adopting and adapting agile development techniques such as test-driven development, continuous integration, and continuous delivery. They take responsibility for their code throughout the life cycle, deploying to production multiple times a day.
